Apply for the Kofi Annan Business School Foundation Fellowships 2014

The Kofi Annan Business School Foundation provides fellowships for talented and motivated students from developing countries that allow them to obtain a university degree in Europe at one of the academic partners of the Kofi Annan Business School Foundation. Partner schools are ESMT, Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School (Belgium) and Hogeschool Utrecht (Netherlands).

Fellows are expected to commit to returning to their home country or region to participate in the development of the local or regional economy. Scholarships are allocated based on academic excellence, personal and professional achievement, particularly strong leadership potential, and superior interpersonal skills.

This scholarship is available at ESMT through the ESMT Circle of Friends.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, be resident in one of the UN’s Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) or Palestine. Fellows are expected to commit to returning to their home country or region to participate in the development of the local or regional economy.

Least developed countries: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Rep. of the Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia,  Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho,  Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Togo, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Kiribati, Myanmar, Nepal, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Yemen and Haiti.

Landlocked developing countries: Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Niger, Rwanda, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Macedonia, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

Fellowship

The total value of the fellowship is €58,000. Fellows will have a full scholarship from ESMT plus fair compensation for costs like travel, accommodation, and program-related fees. Support: Travel, visa, housing, insurance, placement, networking.

VLIR-UOS Training and Masters Scholarships in Belgium

Brief description:

VLIR-UOS awards scholarships to students from 54 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin-America, to follow a training or master programme at a Flemish university or university college in Belgium. The eligible training or master programmes are taught in English. They are designed to enable graduates to assume positions of responsibility in their country of origin.

Number of Awards:

Every year, VLIR-UOS awards up to 180 scholarships to first-year master’s students.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

The scholarships cover allowance, travel costs, accommodation, insurance, tuition fees, and other program related costs.


Eligibility Requirements:

Academic Admission Criteria

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, you need to be academically accepted by the programme you are applying for. This implies that you should meet all eligible criteria of the programme in order to be eligible for the scholarship.  Please check the requirements of the training or master programmes.

Scholarship Admission Criteria

You are a resident AND national of one of the countries on the country list (not necessarily the same country for residence and nationality). Please note that candidates must reside in one of these countries at the moment of application.

You are not older than 40 years* if you apply for a scholarship to follow a master programme. Or you are not older than 45 years* if you apply for a scholarship to follow a training programme. (* on 1 January 2014)

You have the required English proficiency. You need a proof of at least 1 year of comprehensive English-based instruction at a university or recognized equivalent. If not, a TOEFL test is required with a minimum total score of 550 on the paper based test (PBT), or 79 on an internet based test (IBT); or an IELTS test with a minimum overall band score of 6,5; or a proof of another test of similar level as TOEFLE or IELTS.

Present employment or reintegration perspectives are required for a training programme. The candidate must be currently employed or have a written (future) employer’s guarantee of (re)integration in an employment where the acquired knowledge and skills will be immediately applicable.   Professional experience and employment perspectives are not required for a master programme, but they can be a competitive advantage for selection, depending on the programme. Present employment or reintegration perspectives are required for a training programme. The candidate must be currently employed or have a written (future) employer’s guarantee of (re)integration in an employment where the acquired knowledge and skills will be immediately applicable.

Call for Papers: Bilingual (FRENCH & English) International Conference on ‘PEOPLES, Land, and Water: The Natural Connection’

The 4th Bilingual (French and English Languages) International Conference on ‘Peoples, Land and Water: The Natural Connection’ will begin on November 3, 2013 at Espam-Formation University, Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

The Conference is the brainchild of the African Environmental Ethics and Values Research Group, Department of Philosophy, University of Lagos and Espam-Formation University, Cotonou, Republic of Benin in collaboration with the Center for Environmental Philosophy (CEP), Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, University of North Texas, Denton, United States of America.

The 1st Edition of the Conference was held at the University of North Texas, Denton, United States of America in May, 2010 while the 2nd and 3rd Editions were held at the University of Lagos, Nigeria in 2011 and 2012, respectively.

The Coordinators for this year’s Conference are: Dr. Chigbo Joseph Ekwealo of the University of Lagos, Nigeria and Dr. Gene Hargrove of the University of North Texas, Denton, United States of America. The Conference Website is http://www.cep.unt.edu/africa/

 

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS: Academics, civil society & natural activists groups and government officials are invited to present papers on any aspect of the Conference’s theme including: traditional and contemporary notions of land and water, religious notions, scientific and spiritual qualities of land and water, peoples and culture, and science of the cosmos, among others. Papers from other continental perspectives that may be comparative in addressing the theme are welcome.

 

Select papers will be published in the peer reviewed Journal of African Environmental Ethics and Values, Department of Philosophy, UNILAG OR Journal of Intercultural Studies, Espam-Formation University, Cotonou, Republic of Benin.

Abstracts of not more than 250 words should be sent before October 20, 2013 to:
