Call for Application: 2014 Go Green in the City Challenge for Engineering and Business Students

Are you an undergraduate or post-graduate student in Engineering and Business related courses in any university in the world? Schneider Electric invites you to its fourth annual Go Green in the City Global Business Case Challenge. Enter for a chance to revolutionize energy management and gain unique insight into one of the leading global energy management companies. Successful applicants would win a trip to Paris in June 2014.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Business and engineering* students, aged eighteen (18) years of age or older, pursuing their bachelor’s (at least 2nd year), master’s or MBA degree are eligible to compete.
  • Go Green in the City 2014 is open to 2-member teams with at least 1 female member (note: both members must comply with the degree requirements stated above).
  • Both of the team members must study in the same country for the duration of the competition. They are not, however, required to be from the same university, nor are they required to study the same subject or be in the same year, as long as they are not in their first year of their undergraduate education.
  • Competence in the use of English

Note that there are no exceptions to be made regarding the terms of the eligibility requirements. Schneider Electric’s customers, their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, and their respective employees, officers, directors, representatives, agents, consultants, contractors and their family members are not eligible to participate. Schneider Electric reserves the right to limit, or restrict upon notice, participation in the Contest to any person who fails to comply with these Rules and Conditions.

*All branches of engineering and business programs are accepted. Some examples of accepted business and engineering degrees are economics, communication, graphic design, biological engineering, and mathematics. To be sure if your course of study meets the criteria, click here

Guidelines for Application

You must register for the competition as an individual. However, to submit a full application you must register as a team of two.

Accepted formats for the initial application:

  • Word or PDF (max. two A4 size sheets, max. 200 words, max. 1 MB).
  • ·

  • PowerPoint presentation. This presentation may be in any form: images, collages, text or drawings – any way you like (max. two slides, max. 1 MB).

Make sure to clearly state your objectives and ideas for a solution to any of the world’s energy problems. You must explain why your team would be suitable participants in Schneider Electric’s case challenge. Be creative!

Submit a one page CV per team member and an individual personal statement where you explain why you would be a suitable participant in Go Green in the City and a good candidate for an internship with Schneider Electric, together with the competition application.

Initial Applications must be submitted on-line in plain English, by accepting these Rules and Conditions (RAC) and submitting the application form  by each team. The top 12 teams will travel to Paris where they will compete to win a trip around the world and a career opportunity at Schneider Electric. Stages of the Contest

The Contest is organized in three steps, each step being followed by a period of review, assessment and decision to decide on who is selected for the following step.

1. Phase I – Submission of Initial Application will be run from November 15, 2013 to February 15, 2014.

2. Phase II – Synopsis of Business Case as defined hereinafter will be run until March 30, 2014.

3. Phase III – Final Round will be run until Finals presentation on June 17-21, 2014.

Call for Application: UN-Habitat World Urban Forum 7 (WUF7)

Applications are already open for interested participants to attend the World Urban Forum 7 taking place at Medellin, Columbia from April 5 – 11, 2014. The World Urban Forum is an international conference organized by the UN-HABITAT to discuss issues related to sustainable urban development. Its seventh edition will bring together some of the most committed “City Changers” from both the North and the South. It will be a platform to create new networks and partnerships, as well as strengthen existing ones, with a meaningful impact on equity and development. Participants will gain new awareness about the role that cities, countries, international agencies and development partners can play in advancing an equity agenda, while sharing knowldge and best practices. The WUF7 theme is “Urban Equity in Development – Cities for Life.”

Registration for WUF7 is free of charge. All WUF7 participants must be registered individually to get their accreditation and to have access to the WUF7 venue. Online registration opened on 17th July, 2013 and will close on 16th March, 2014.

Every participant will receive an auto-generated acknowledgement email confirming the successful registration and reflecting a unique registration number. In case this email is not received, please contact the World Urban Forum secretariat on wuf@unhabitat.org.
