Be a volunteer for the World Mental Health Week

Every year, the World Health Organization recommends a day to commemorate the World Mental Health Day. This day is the 10th of October.

There is usually a theme for every year. For last year, it was Depression: A global crisis. This was celebrated by Pinnacle Medical Services by giving a public lecture, radio and television talks, and visits to some schools within the Lagos metropolis.

For this year, the theme is “Mental Health and Older Adult”. This means psychological and mental health challenges that are common among people 65years and above. Such common disorders like dementia (vascular dementia, alhzemier disease etc), depression in the elderly, psychosis among others.

SpeakOut Initiative, the brain child of Pinnacle Medical Services, a health and wellness centre wishes to use this opportunity to educate, enlighten and inform the society about these disorders and the burden of care that can be imposed on the families.

For example, people often mistake senility as a normal aging process. The fact is *Senility = Dementia.*….

As a volunteer, this is how you can come in;

1.) Volunteer to attend any or all of the various programmes for the week
2.) Link to potential sponsors, either in kind or cash
3.) Attend one or more of the radio and or Tv talk shows. Also, helping to link the team to the various media platforms
4.) Donating gift items for the old people’s home (clothes, provision, etc)
5.) Most importantly, giving us your time and energy.

Add 32F8A2BB on the BlackBerry Messenger for similar updates

It is noteworthy that the team is open to suggestions from you, either an addition or subtraction. The goal is to have an awesome and successful outing.

Proposed giggles, radio and television talks before the week activities:

• Sunday, 29th September:  A one hour wellness talk with Dj Gosporella and Dami of Beats Fm. We will be discussing on our activities for the week

• Saturday, 31st Sept: Health Matters with Yomi Otaigbe of Channels News. This is yet to be confirmed

• Tuesday, October 1st: A talk on depression to a church congregation @ VGC. We will also talk on the forthcoming activities to the crowd .

• Saturday, 5th Oct.: A talk to a group of preggies on the emotional and psychological challenges during and after pregnancy/delivery. Also, to enlighten them on our activities.

• Sunday,  6th Oct.: A talk on AM express, NTA about the activities. This is yet to be confirmed.

Dumbest Laws in some Parts of the World

AREN’T THESE LAWS DUMB?

It is illegal for children to use towels as capes and jump from houses pretending to be superman. (Bromide, Oklahoma)

All men driving motorcycles must wear shirts. (Minnesota)

One may be jailed for wearing a hat while dancing, or even for wearing a hat to a function where dancing is taking place. (Fargo, ND)
